The MSA Metropolitan Region is comprised of the cities of Mission, McAllen, Pharr, and Edinburg, is the fifth most populous area in Texas, and is also part of the transnational Reynosa-McAllen Metropolitan Area.
In it, Mission has a privileged position due to its proximity to the Mexican border and the Rio Grande Valley corridor, which crosses both sides of the border between Texas and Tamaulipas, passing through the cities of Matamoros, Reynosa and Rio Bravo in the Mexican side, while on US soil it crosses through Hidalgo and Cameron counties.
