As of year-end 2020, San Luis Potosi earned US$920.2 million in foreign direct investment from various industries.

The top international sales for San Luis Potosi in 2020 were: Motor Vehicle Parts and Accessories US$1.24 billion; Electrical Lighting or Signaling Equipment US$562 million, and Electrical Wire and Cable US$244 million.

In 2020, San Luis Potosí generated 13.667 billion dollars in total merchandise exports. Manufacturing exports in 2020 were 13.529 million dollars.

Industrial Main Sectors

Approximately 9,962 manufacturing companies are operating in SLP as of 2019, providing employment to more than 184,705 people.

Automotive: This activity is one of the most important in the State due to the creation of over 84,000 jobs in its approximately 241 companies, in addition to representing 46.5% of the total gross production of the manufacturing industry.

Food industry: The food industry is of great importance due to its economic impact and the employment created, 28,486 jobs in its 3,638 economic units.

Medical: This activity is comprised of approximately 1,901 economic units, creating more than 11,544 jobs, and accounting for 2.8% of the total gross production of the manufacturing industry in SLP.

Labor Force

There was a total of 6,879 new students entering engineering, manufacturing and construction careers in the 2019-2020 school year. There were 3,500 graduates from universities and technical institutions, being one of the most demanded careers in the state.
