Relief
The Surface is part of the provinces: Sierra and Plains of the North, Sierra Madre Oriental and the higher plains in North America.
The state landscape has mountains made up of sedimentary rocks (they form on beaches, rivers, oceans and where sand or mud accumulates). In the southeast is El Morro hill with 3,703 meters above sea level (msnm).
Plains have been developed, the most representative is the Mayan Desert (Laguna), and this is where the populations of Piedras Negras and Nueva Rosita are located.
In the northeast there is a series of large hills, and to the west a field of dunes (mountains of sand), the lowest area is 200 m and is located east of the entity.
