With more than 881.2 million dollars registered in the first quarter of this year, Tamaulipas breaks a record in foreign direct investment (FDI), ranking fourth nationally among the states that attract the largest flow of investment to Mexico.

According to data from the Ministry of Economy, the flow of FDI in Tamaulipas, in the first quarter of 2022, represents 4.5% of the national total, which also places it in second place among the northern border states.

From 1999 to date, there had not been such an important record in a quarter, even the figure is equivalent to the accumulated record of some complete years, prior to the current six-year term.

In addition, the report highlights that FDI comes mainly from the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland with 24.8% of the total, followed by the United States with 20.2 and Spain with 15.6 percent.

In the first quarter of 2022, the FDI that arrives in Tamaulipas is mainly from mining (oil and gas extraction) with 34.8%, followed by the manufacturing industry with 22.7 percent.

It is important to note that the report from the Ministry of Economy detailed that of this investment flow, as of the first quarter of 2022, 54.9% were new investments, while 24.5% were reinvestments and the rest in accounts between other companies.
