Apodaca, located in the State of Nuevo Leon,
in northeast Mexico and west of State of Tamaulipas, and McAllen will become Sister
Cities in a formal ceremony, following a day-long visit in McAllen by
Mayor Villarreal.
“I am proud to welcome Apodoca
as a new Sister City to the McAllen family,” said McAllen Mayor Javier
Villalobos. “I look forward to the trade
and investment promotion, through the exchange of trade missions between our
two cities. Most especially, I hope our two cities can exchange best practices and experiences in urban planning,
waste management, and public safety, among others.”
Villalobos also stressed the educational
opportunities for students from both communities to access workshops, symposia,
conferences, and internships. Other opportunities for both cities to take part
in include cultural exchanges to promote and permanently disseminate the
history and regional traditions of McAllen and Apodaca.
“Nuevo
Leon and Texas are united by history, customs and traditions,” said Mayor
Villarreal. “In this regional geographical framework, Apodaca and McAllen stand
out exponentially as great poles of economic development, with a wide tourist
and labor migration, in a bidirectional and permanent way. Apodaca as the
vigorous and thriving industrial capital of northern Mexico. McAllen as a city
with a high degree of growth.”
Mayor
Villarreal added, “We share a legacy of experiences, of achievements, thanks to
the dynamism and effort of our working people, always frank, simple, friendly
and supportive, which for both cities has resulted in a multisectoral growth
that positively affects the well-being of the individual and their families. Apodaca
and McAllen are not only linked by a rich cultural history, but also for an
ancestral fraternity that we now formalize with the twinning of both cities and
their governments.”
Both cities hope to promote tourism,
establishing promotional campaigns that will highlight the attractions of both
communities, as well as the air and land connectivity routes that help the
movement of people and goods between McAllen and Apodaca.
