McAllen, Texas and Apodaca, Nuevo León will become sister cities

Apodaca, located in the State of Nuevo Leon, in northeast Mexico and west of State of Tamaulipas, and McAllen will become Sister Cities in a formal ceremony, following a day-long visit in McAllen by Mayor Villarreal.

“I am proud to welcome Apodoca as a new Sister City to the McAllen family,” said McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos.  “I look forward to the trade and investment promotion, through the exchange of trade missions between our two cities. Most especially, I hope our two cities can exchange best  practices and experiences in urban planning, waste management, and public safety, among others.”

Villalobos also stressed the educational opportunities for students from both communities to access workshops, symposia, conferences, and internships. Other opportunities for both cities to take part in include cultural exchanges to promote and permanently disseminate the history and regional traditions of McAllen and Apodaca.

“Nuevo Leon and Texas are united by history, customs and traditions,” said Mayor Villarreal. “In this regional geographical framework, Apodaca and McAllen stand out exponentially as great poles of economic development, with a wide tourist and labor migration, in a bidirectional and permanent way. Apodaca as the vigorous and thriving industrial capital of northern Mexico. McAllen as a city with a high degree of growth.”

Mayor Villarreal added, “We share a legacy of experiences, of achievements, thanks to the dynamism and effort of our working people, always frank, simple, friendly and supportive, which for both cities has resulted in a multisectoral growth that positively affects the well-being of the individual and their families. Apodaca and McAllen are not only linked by a rich cultural history, but also for an ancestral fraternity that we now formalize with the twinning of both cities and their governments.”

Both cities hope to promote tourism, establishing promotional campaigns that will highlight the attractions of both communities, as well as the air and land connectivity routes that help the movement of people and goods between McAllen and Apodaca.

Aeropuerto Internacional Mariano Escobedo, also known as Monterrey International Airport, is actually located in Apodaca, N.L. It is the gateway to business and tourism with the State of Nuevo Leon. McAllen has direct connectivity to Monterrey International Airport through Aeromar, a great opportunity to promote business, medical and leisure tourism.

Apodaca boasts the biggest industrial park in Nuevo Leon. McAllen, through the McAllen Economic Development Corporation, has a along successful story dealing with manufacturing companies throughout the world. With the Sister City connection, there are opportunities to attract expansions from Apodaca-based manufacturing companies to McAllen and Reynosa.

McAllen and Apodaca can collaborate in projects to attract investors to both communities and promote business startups. The direct connectivity between McAllen and Apodaca airports also offers great opportunities to promote business, medical and leisure tourism.
