Lakeland begins construction of a textile plant in Nuevo León

Lakeland  began construction of its first plant in Nuevo León, where it will invest five million dollars and will be generating 400 new jobs.

The factory will be located in the municipality of Guadalupe; It will focus on the manufacture of protective and safety clothing.

Roberson, CEO of Lakeland , stated that proximity has been important for the company to improve the resilience of the supply chain, which is why it was an important factor in selecting Nuevo León, with the intention of promoting long-term growth plans. term.

This project to manufacture industrial clothing is the result of nearshoring , the relocation of plants, in this case from Asia, to take advantage of the USMCA , and reflects an opportunity to diversify into the textile sector.

In Mexico, the company also has facilities in Zacatecas. Globally, it has factories in Argentina, China, India and Vietnam.

It should be noted that the global market for personal protective equipment has been increasing due to greater awareness of safety in the workplace, particularly after the Covid-19 pandemic.
