Aptiv is committed to consolidating its position in the northeast of the country with components for electric cars

Aptiv 's commitment in the northeast of Mexico is clear, it seeks to consolidate its position in Tamaulipas, Nuevo León and Coahuila, with the manufacture of components for electric vehicles , from June to October it will have inaugurated three plants, which will allow it to serve timely the needs of its customers in Mexico and the United States.

Aptiv inaugurated a second plant in the municipality of Linares in which it invested 14.9 million dollars , with the generation of 942 new formal jobs, "where we are strongly committed to talent and innovation," said Arturo Álvarez, president of Distribution Systems Electric and President of Aptiv in Latin America.

“The components that we produce here are going to have an impact on the sector. Imagine that the orders can carry a 100% electric VAN, with the reduction of harmful emissions and the use of cleaner energies”, stressed the manager.

However, in the next few days they are going to inaugurate another plant in Frontera, Coahuila, where 3,460 new jobs will be created. This will be the fourth plant in Coahuila and they will manufacture low-voltage harnesses for traditional and electric cars, with an investment of around 14.7 million dollars, according to the statements made by Arturo Álvarez, on June 6 when the announcement was made. investment.

It should be added that on June 9, Aptiv opened a plant in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, where 2,517 jobs will be created and an investment of 52.3 million dollars was made. They are expected to produce 2.47 million parts for the North American market, which will be assembled into around 1.10 million electric vehicles.

 

Aptiv makes a comprehensive contribution to innovation in Mexico

During the inauguration event at the Linares plant, Jesús Cantú Escalante, head of the Regulatory, Competitiveness and Competition Unit of the Ministry of Economy, highlighted that the company has a quarter of its plants worldwide in Mexico, “ It is not just assembly, it has two Engineering Centers in Mexico, out of a total of 130 globally. An engineer from Ciudad Juárez is competing as the main innovator in the world, that is, Aptiv makes an integral contribution to innovation in Mexico.”

He considered that Aptiv's contribution to electromobility and creative industries is important by designing seat belts that generate zero deaths, with an active safety system. He also highlighted that this company has gender equality, since 55% of jobs are held by women.

Meanwhile, Samuel García Sepúlveda, governor of Nuevo León , commented that the company that manufactures harnesses for electric car fleets will have an estimated capacity to produce 780,000 pieces per year.

He assured that in the state the strongest arm is the economic one, since the entity stands out in all the indicators, which allows that each week there is an announcement of investment or expansion.

He added that after a year of government, the necessary projects have already been promoted so that the citrus region has a more fluid mobility towards the border, with the Interserrana highway, the Periférico, the remodeling of the La Gloria-Colombia highway and promised those who make their exports through Colombian customs, that there will be fiscal incentives.   

In turn, Jorge García Puente, vice president and general director of EDS Americas of Aptiv, highlighted that the company of Irish origin, is one of the largest manufacturing employers, opening its first plant in 1978 in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua; Ten years later, it began operations at its first industrial complex in Linares, Nuevo León, and in 2016, it carried out its first expansion in the municipality of Guadalupe.

Today, more than 5,200 people are employed in Nuevo León who offer safer, ecological and better connected solutions that allow a sustainable future of mobility.

Aptiv has 32 plants in Mexico and has operations in eight states, with around 72,000 employees.
